A Travellerspoint blog

Dodging the Pig Flu

To set the scene, this is a blog about a family of four Tim (Dad), Sarah (Mum), Sam (son aged 21) and Jake (son aged 16) going on a whistlestop tour of Rajasthan in India.

We leave Heathrow on 25th July and return on 12th August.

The trip has been independently organised by me, with the help of Tripadvisor, Lonely Planet, Indiamike.com and most importantly Nikhil at TGS Travel in Jaipur.

The week leaving up to our departure has, to be honest, been a bit of an anticlimax. Instead of a growing sense of exitement, it has seemed inevitable that one of us would go down with the Swine Flu and the trip would be in ruins. This was made worse by the fact that Jake has been travelling all week in Romania with a school trip and Sam has been at his girlfriend's in Leicester, one of the Swine Flu hotspots.

It now, on Friday evening, with 24 hours to go, looks possible that we might all board the plane healthy, although I'm not so sure about when we get off!!

I have been to India before on business and Sam travelled in India for 6 weeks after leaving school. The other two are India virgins and it will be interesting to see their reactions as we emerge from Mumbai's air termina!!
